Bringing 2024 to a Close

 

Dear Friends of the Politics º£½ÇÂÛ̳,

As another exciting year comes to a close, we have much to report on what our faculty, students, and alumni have been doing since our last newsletter. Many of our events are made possible by alumni donations to the department’s Annual Fund. If you are interested in supporting the Fund or helping the department in other ways, you can learn more here.

Sadly, Spaghetti the cat passed away earlier this year. Though he is greatly missed by his family, we are blessed to have his brother Meatball still with us. He hopes that everyone will have lots of play time during the Christmas holiday!

Our Faculty

Recent faculty achievements include:

• Andrew Yeo published a new co-edited book, , and was interviewed by on North Korean troops in Russia. 
• Foreign Policy magazine by Jakub Grygiel, department chair, entitled “Will Europe’s Front-Line States Have Enough Soldiers to Fight?”
• Matthew Green received the Stephen Schneck Award for Excellence in Social Science Research.
• David Walsh delivered two papers on Voegelin’s “New Science of Politics”: one at the º£½ÇÂÛ̳Trieste, and another at the Mathias Corvinus Collegium in Budapest.
• Sarah Gustafson gave the of the Walters Memorial Lecture Series for the Furman University Tocqueville Center, entitled "Tocqueville's Complicated View of the Welfare State."

Campus Events and Alumni Achievements

• Matthew Green gave a talk on Zoom for politics students analyzing the results of the 2024 election results.

• The Buckley Institute at Yale University awarded Greg Collins (Ph.D. 2017) the .
• David An (Ph.D. 2021) spoke at “Bridging the Humanities & Technology Gap,” a in October.
• The Politics º£½ÇÂÛ̳ launched a new program, the , with a lecture by Professor Phillip Muñoz (Notre Dame, pictured below) entitled “Freedom from Religion or Freedom for Religion: Natural Rights & the American Constitution."
